The Student Council of St. Vincent Pallotti College celebrated with pride and zeal the 74th Republic Day of the nation, also known as “Gantantra Divas.” The theme for the year is ‘Jan-Bhagidari (participation of people)’. The event was presided over by Rev. Fr. Gilbert Mascarenhas SAC Director, Dr. E. Jerome Xavier, Principal, Guest of Honour was Rev. Fr. Andrew Roshan Alva, PU Principal. Prof. Padmavathy, PU Vice Principal & Prof. Navitha Angelina, Student Welfare Officer were also present at the function.Rev. Fr. Gilbert Mascarenhas SAC with pride and immense happiness ignited patriotism and hoisted the flag followed by Parade marching by the NCC cadets led by JUO Sooraj.”Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, the father of the Indian Constitution and one of the most influential figures in modern India at the time, presided over its adoption on November 26, 1949″ said Fr. Andrew Roshan Alva. He highlighted three significant events taking place in Delhi on Republic Day.
First being Hoisting of the National Flag followed by display of our defence systems and cultural heritage of all states and presentation of prestigious national awards. He closed his speech noting that we should be extremely proud of our founders, whose unwavering efforts laid the framework for our Republic, and the individuals who fought against all obstacles to enact our nation’s own constitution.
Today’s event serves as a reminder that we value their efforts and never forget them.In his speech, Principal Dr. E. Jerome Xavier stated that our constitution states that we are a sovereign, socialist, secular, and democratic republic. It guarantees its citizens’ justice, equality, liberty, and fraternity. It also outlines our rights and responsibilities as citizens. On this Republic Day, I hope that no matter who we are, rich or poor, strong politicians or ordinary people, we continue to follow the fundamental ideas and values enshrined in our great constitution. So that, as we move forward and continue to grow our nation, we should not abandon the basis upon which our country is formed.The students brought the stage alive with their passion and love of the motherland through their dance performance. The hall reverberate with patriotic favor and enthusiasm by students.
